Hybrid Week

What is hybrid week? Here you will find all of the information you need to know!
If your question is not answered below then feel free to reach out to  studentlife@covenantseminary.edu  and get the answers you need.

What is a Hybrid Course? What is Hybrid Week?

  • Hybrid Course: a course consisting of online learning and an on-campus intensive. This differs from Jan-Term and weekend classes which do not have significant online portions, but rather are primarly on-campus. Most hybrid courses take place during "hybrid week" (see below) though occasionally courses will be offered in hybrid format at other times of the year outside of hybrid week.
  • Hybrid Week: Days spent on-campus for intensive portions of the Hybrid Course (Hybrid Week happens 3 times per year. Course intensives typically last 2.5 days)
  • Example: Katie takes Counseling in the Church 1 and Christian Formation and Calling. The online portions of both classes take place over the span of the full semester. Katie attends Hybrid Week, attending Counseling in the Church 1, intensive Monday through Wednesday. Katie also stays to take Christian Formation and Calling Thursday through Saturday. Her peer, Eric only attends Christian Formation and Calling (Thursday through Saturday). Eric is on campus only Thursday through Friday, because there are no class sessions for Christian Formation and Calling in the first half in which he is currently enrolled.
  • Hybrid courses are strategic ways for MDiv and MAM students to meet the residential requirements in their degrees. Hybrid courses also are great opportunities for MABTS, MATS, and GC students to connect to the St. Louis campus and get to know their classmates in a deeper way, even though their degrees do not have a residential course requirement.

When is Hybrid Week?

  • Fall (mid-October, during Covenant’s Residential Fall Break)
  • Spring (mid-January before the Spring semester starts)
  • Summer (mid-July)

Typical Hybrid Week Schedule:

  • First half: Monday & Tuesday (8:30-5:00pm), Wednesday (8:30-12:30pm)
  • Second Half: Thursday & Friday (8:30-5:00pm), Saturday (8:30-12:30pm)

What do I do if I need to add or drop my hybrid class?

Reach out to your academic advisor!

Do you provide rides from the airport?

We are unable to provide and coordinate rides. Use Canvas to reach out to peers in the class and coordinate logistics.

When should I arrive?

We suggest arriving the day before your class starts.

Should I rent a car?

It depends! If you stay on campus, you can walk to class. Other than class, a car is necessary for groceries, meals, etc. If you stay off campus, you will need access to a car (or friend!) to get to class.

How do I park on campus?

Parking is free and you are welcome to park anywhere not designated for staff and faculty.

How do I stay on campus?

If you would like to stay on campus email*** Shawn Summers at  shawn.summers@covenantseminary.edu   Priority will be given to those willing to share a room (not beds!) as many students like to stay on campus. You are welcome to request your own room, bring your family, or request a roommate. Accommodation is based on availability.
***Please answer these four questions in your email:
    Arrival date?
    Departure date?
Would you be open to sharing a room with a fellow student?
If not a room, would you be open to sharing a house/apartment with another student if you have your own room?

Where do I stay if campus housing is full?

While there are some hotels nearby, they are often expensive. We recommend you try to stay with a friend or split an Air Bnb with classmates.

What about food/coffee on campus?

  • The Cafe will be open to provide drip coffee and tea (two complimentary cups per day).
  • There is no food at the cafe.
  • Microwaves and fridges are available in the Community Center.
  • Edwards Hall has a simple kitchen available (basic pots and pans, ovens, stove, microwave, utensils, and sink).
  • Student Life will host one breakfast and one lunch per half of Hybrid Week. This is free to hybrid students. Look for RSVP’s in email before Hybrd Weeks.
  • Student Life will provide snacks in classrooms.

What would you encourage me to take advantage of during hybrid week?

  • Take advantage of sharing a meal with your classmates, professors, and seminary staff. You are welcome to bring family to meals and social events. We simply ask that you RSVP so we know best how to plan.
  • Schedule office hours with professors, whether or not you are currently in their class. Take the opportunity to sit down in person with past, current, or future professors.
  • Plan to have coffee or a meal with Megan Jung (Associate Dean of Women) or Cary Smith (Online Student Care Coordinator). Email or sing up via their calendly link to set up appointments.
  •  megan.jung@covenantseminary.edu  or sign up via her calendly link at  https://calendly.com/megan-jung/meeting?month=2024-05
  •  cary.smith@covenantseminary.edu  or sign up via his calendly link at  https://calendly.com/cary-smith
  • Make an appointment with your academic advisor. Please schedule your appointments a few weeks in advance.
  • Buy your Covenant gear while on campus so you don't have to pay for shipping! Hybrid week is a great time for our "out of town" students to pick up swag and skip the price of shipping. You can purchase products prior to coming to campus or during the week for on-campus pickup. Head down to first floor of Founders and talk with Admissions about purchasing your gear.
  • Visit our online store here:  https://www.covenantseminary.edu/store
